“How To Marry A Millionaire” {1953} stars Marilyn Monrie, Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall as three single gals looking for love. And not just any love, mind you. They rent an apartment in New York with one goal in mind: to marry and marry rich.

“How To Marry A Millionaire”

In “How To Marry A Millionaire,” Monroe, Bacall and Grable play models looking to land rich husbands. Marilyn Monroe plays her typical character that she was generally cast in, a dumb blonde. However, she plays it well and I still found her very likable. She has a vision problem but refuses to wear her glasses because she is really self conscious and feels that no one will be attracted to her with them on. Because of this, she is constantly running into things, making the movie pretty funny.

Bacall and Grable each play more serious and tougher type women. They know what they want and they have no problem saying it. It’s funny, because the women are obvious gold diggers but the dumb men still swarm all over them. Grable was especially funny in a scene where she learns that a suitor doesn’t own all the land that she mistakenly assumed he did. The look of surprise and disgust on her face was great. It’s nice to see a gold digger get what’s NOT coming to her ever once in a while.

“I ain’t saying she’s a gold digger…” Yeah, I know. Kanye and Jamie called. They want their song back.

What Did We Think Of “How To Marry A Millionaire?”

Amber and I watched it together and we both liked it. It’s funny how people assume they know what they want, but when they finally get what they want in the end, it is something totally different than what they originally set out for. It’s a really cute movie and, though guys might not be impressed, I highly recommend it for a girl’s night.

    I am not necessarily a fan of Marilyn Monroe, but I do love her movies! This one especially is very funny and like you said, her physical comedy is a bit of a different role for her but well acted. Thank yo for making me remember this movie – I would LOVE to see it again.

    There are def some classics films in that era. I love Bachelor and Bobby Socker (Cary Grant) and of course Pillow Talk (Doris Day!!)
