Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates {Starring Zac Efron & Anna Kendrick} Review #MikeAndDave

July 27, 2016 by Dawn McAlexander

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates Review #MikeAndDave

I gotta be honest. I really wasn’t planning on seeing this movie but the one that I was going to see, Finding Dory, was canceled due to an air conditioning issue or something. And I am definitely glad they canceled it if the air conditioner wasn’t going to work. Perhaps I will see it next week. So, since we go early on Tuesdays {only $5 a ticket} and not all of the movies play early, I had only a few movies to choose from. Luckily, I like both Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick, so I decided to see Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates Review

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates stars two underachieving, codependent, man-boys {Zac Efron & Adam Devine} who are pretty much a disgrace to their family. When confronted, Mike and Dave are shocked to find out that they actually ruin family social events instead of being the party starters that they see themselves as. Their little sister is getting married and Mike and Dave are requested to bring nice girls as dates in hopes that this will keep them both occupied and out of trouble. So, naturally, they take out a Craigslist ad and go on the Wendy Williams show looking for potential dates. So when Mike and Dave find two opportunistic “nice girls” {played by Anna Kendrick & Aubrey Plaza} to bring to the wedding, the family has no idea what is in store for them.

Get down with @ZacEfron & @AnnaKendrick47 in #MikeAndDave, now playing. https://t.co/Oj8RIvpFOM pic.twitter.com/aosw4f5R5X

My Thoughts

I really didn’t think I would find this movie very entertaining. I am almost 40 and it didn’t seem marketed toward my demographic, after all. I have to admit, though, that it really has some funny parts. I think Zac Efron is great at playing comedic roles, as is Anna Kendrick. She always comes across very likable to me in movies. So, if you are looking for a funny movie, this is a good choice. I also found Aubrey Plaza’s dry, sarcastic brand of humor quite funny. I will have to look for more movies with her in it now.

Having said that, there are some really, really gratuitous sex scenes and a lot of nudity. I feel this movie is marketed towards a younger crowd but I would really think hard about whether I want my young teen to see it or not if I were you. Twenty somethings are fine. I also think the older crowd {like me} who still love the American Pie franchise will enjoy this movie. I would give it 3.5 to 4 stars and would definitely watch it again.

Good to know because I am similar in age to you and I didn’t think it looked funny at all, but since you said it was good, I will check it out.

I was definitely shocked by how funny I thought it was. But it’s definitely not for those that get easily offended.

I never considered even watching this movie. It doesn’t look like it would be my kind of movie. I’m sure it is funny, but I think my cousins would appreciate it more than me.

Sounds like quite an entertaining movie! And a bit of a different genre than Finding Dory. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I appreciate your honest review, including the themes that might be a bit much to send kids to see–that is very helpful!

Yeah, definitely different than Finding Dory, lol. Sadly, I still haven’t seen it yet!

I still have not seen this movie, & must admit I was surprised to learn from your review that there were a ton of sex scenes. It doesn’t seem like my cup of tea. I’ll wait to watch it once it comes out on cable or Netflix.

You know, I have to say that the movie, as a whole, was pretty predictable, but some of those jokes…. ha! I had no idea where they were going. It wasn’t the same old round up of retold jokes that you see in a lot of movies and was quite funny, in my opinion. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s funny you said the American Pie generation would probably like it becauet he cover reminded me of American Pie! I might add this to our que if it shows up on Netflix but I probably won’t rush out to see it. Zac Efron sure did grow up. WOWZERS.

Yes, he definitely wasn’t hard to look at, lol. Mike & Dave both made me think of Stiffler the entire movie!

Since you said you liked it even though it may not have been aimed at your demographic, I’ll give it a try. A good laugh is a good thing!

    • Dawn McAlexander says

      July 29, 2016 at 5:09 pm

That could definitely be true. I think I am just one of those weird people that likes movies from all demographics, though. I would watch Mean Girls and then go watch The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and like them both just the same, ๐Ÿ˜€

I haven’t had much thought about this movie but I think it’s definitely for a younger crowd. Maybe when it comes out in video I’ll give it try.

Glad you enjoyed the movie, I will have to see if it is still playing by me. It is too hot out and the AC is perfect for the movies. I have watched Zac in his high school musical days so it would be nice to see him in a different role BY the way go see Finding Dory when you have a chance.

    • Dawn McAlexander says

      July 29, 2016 at 5:08 pm

Thanks! I definitely will. We go to the movies every Tuesday, so maybe this one will be it.
