Magic Mike XXL Movie Review #MagicMikeXXL

July 9, 2015 by Amber

Magic Mike XXL Review #MagicMikeXXL

After watching the first Magic Mike, I have been impatiently waiting for the second. Starring Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, and many more attractive men including my personal favorite – Joe Manganiello, Magic Mike XXL follows the infamous “male entertainers” as they combine forces once again to take part in a convention at Myrtle Beach.

Magic Mike XXL Review

The Good…
Firstly, I have to say that I like the female cast in Magic Mike XXL much better than that of the first one. In the first one, I thought the lead female role was played by someone who was not only a poor actor, but also quite awkward. When you are in a movie surrounded by semi-naked dancing men, awkward is the last thing you can be LOL. In Magic Mike XXL, they added a group of female actors that are more well known such as Jada Pinkett Smith, Andie MacDowell, and Elizabeth Banks. Also, they cast the gorgeous Amber Heard to play the female role. I think she did a wonderful job.

Now for the best part – the dancing. I thought the dance scenes were really good in this movie. The makers got a bit more, um, creative. Although I enjoyed the dance scenes a lot, I will say this: I felt like in Magic Mike XXL the dance scenes for most of the men were quite short and rushed aside from Channing Tatum and Joe Manganiello. One of my friends that went to see this with me was quite disappointed in that because she is a huge fan of Matt Bomer.

I also liked that they added men and women of color into Magic Mike XXL as well. When seeing the first movie, I heard quite a few people complain that for the most part, the men are either white or light skinned so I am glad that the makers of Magic Mike XXL did a great job of adding a wide variety of color this time. I could tell a lot of people were pleased by that.

The Bad…
One thing that I have heard many complaints about is the disappearing of characters. For instance the characters played by Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, and Cody Horn all disappeared without any real explanation. I thought that having Alex’s character dissolved was kind of odd since he ended up being a pretty big role in the first one.

Final Thoughts…
All things aside, I really enjoyed Magic Mike XXL. I hope they continue to make these movies, but based on this one it seems like they may not. Throughout the movie, the men kept saying things like “one last time” that implied that there might not be another movie. Oh well, a girl can dream!

I am glad that you loved this one. So, what made this one so much better for you than the first one?

I think the lack of a love story line was better. There was a subtle one but nothing that was dramatic and annoying.
