Avengers Age Of Ultron Movie Review #AgeOfUltron

May 11, 2015 by Jay Crawford

Avengers: Age Of Ultron Movie Review #AgeOfUltron

Recently, Dawn and I went to check out the new movie, Avengers Age of Ultron. We both are huge fans of the original Avengers movie and considered this movie to be one of our most highly anticipated films of the summer movie season! Needless to say, we were both super excited to see it.

Avengers Age Of Ultron

Avengers Age of Ultron features many of the familiar actors and actresses returning to portray our favorite Avengers characters. Robert Downey, Jr. returns as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/The Black Widow. Avengers: Age of Ultron also introduces some new characters to the mix. Don Cheadle appears as James Rhodes/War Machine, Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen plays Wanda Maixmoff/Scarlet Witch.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron Movie Review #AgeOfUltron

Avengers Age Of Ultron – The Plot

Avengers Age of Ultron starts off with the Avengers reunited in the search for Loki’s scepter, the weapon that Thor’s infamous brother used in the first Avengers film to control Hawkeye. They find and retrieve the scepter and Tony Stark and Dr. Banner begin to study it to determine the source of its magical powers. Banner discovers that the scepter’s power comes from something that resembles a sophisticated computer program. Stark then comes up with what he thinks is a brilliant idea: incorporate that program into Jarvis, Stark’s program that he created and used to build Iron Man, and create what he calls the Ultron Program. This program is designed to build a powerful peace-keeping robot army in the image of Iron Man. However, Dr. Banner thinks that without more time to study the scepter and its power (Thor has given them just three days before he is to return it to Asgard), that this would be a bad idea. However, Stark continues to have Jarvis try to crack the intricate code of the program in order to continue the plan. Unfortunately, the program is way too powerful for Jarvis and, once he cracks the code, the program takes over Jarvis and creates Ultron (played by James Spader). Ultron does want peace on Earth, but he sees that the only way it can happen is with the destruction of the Avengers.

Ultron is then everywhere. He is in every computerized piece of equipment in use, and the Avengers are forced to go without the aid of computer systems to avoid Ultron and come up with a plan to stop him. With S.H.I.E.L.D. in shambles, that proves to be an extremely tough undertaking.

Jay’s Thoughts

I thought the film had a fair amount of action and some of the comedic quips that we have come to know and expect in these types of movies. By no means is it a bad movie. It is much better than many other movies I have seen, however, given the high expectations following the first movie, I felt that it just did not live up. There was a whole lot of introspection from each character, I guess in an attempt to understand them better, that left me a little more lost than anything about what each character was expecting out of their lives. I would recommend this film to others, but not with the highest marks. after the build up of the the first movie, this one fell quite short of my expectations.

Dawn’s Thoughts

Although I admit that I liked the first installment better, I really enjoyed Hawkeye’s character development in this installment more. The addition of Linda Cardellini {his paramore} was also a nice choice as I think she is a great actress which I don’t see in nearly enough roles. I was a little disappointed that there was nothing after the credits {except for a Terminator-esque note saying that the Avengers will be back}, so I am not sure what they have in store for the next installment, but I would like to see Gwyneth Paltrow return and much more snarky commentary from Iron Man. I would definitely give this movie a solid B. It’s not bad, it’s just that the previous one is so stinking good that it’s really hard to top. If you haven’t seen it, you definitely should.

P.S. Mark Ruffalo is still an awesome Hulk. I would love to see more of him and Black Widow together.

I saw it opening weekend! I loved Linda Cardellini too. My husband and I were laughing because we couldn’t figure out why she was so familiar to us and then we remembered that she plays the title character’s insane sister in the show “New Girl.”
And Mark Ruffalo is my personal hubba hubba, although there are lots of good choices in such a film.

See, I remembered her from “ER.” I forgot about her being on “New Girl!” And, yes, there is a lot of “hubba, hubba” in this movie, but Mark Ruffalo in general is my favorite. I also really like Chris Hemsworth when he is playing Thor. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Dawn McAlexander says

That is definitely a good point. If the original is good enough to have a sequel, then it is usually quite hard to top.
