I was browsing around on YouTube tonight and I came across one of the coolest videos I have ever seen. I will admit, I don’t know much about football {the hubs is the football expert in this house} but I just had to write about this. If you have not heard of Devon Still, he was a player for the Cincinnati Bengals who was cut from his contract a few days ago, but then he was resigned almost immediately so that he could have health insurance for his very sick little girl.
The Cincinnati Bengals Resign Devon Still
Admittedly, Devon Still missed a lot of practice and commitments to the Cincinnati Bengals. But that’s what you do when your daughter has a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma that is potentially fatal. Football just can’t be first and I think it’s awesome that Devon Still chose his daughter over his career.
What else is awesome is that the people in charge of the Cincinnati Bengals apparently agree. Although they dropped him from his initial contract, they resigned him to a new one that allows him to travel far less so that he can be home more with his daughter. It also allows him to keep vital health insurance that insures that his daughter can continue to get the healthcare that she needs.
Like I said, I don’t know much about football. Jay is usually the one who writes about football on this blog when it’s covered, but I just wanted to share this. I am not 100% sure that I have ever heard of Devon Still before tonight and I definitely didn’t know about his daughter’s condition. But, I wish this family the best and for his daughter to have a very speedy recovery.
Help Fight Childhood Cancer
In case you didn’t know, this month is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. If you would like information on how you can join in the fight against childhood cancers, check out Alex’s Lemonade Stand. A blogger friend of mine recommended this organization to me who’s son also has cancer. You will be able to read about their story soon on Cheap Is The New Classy.

I have never heard of him, but what an amazing man he is and what a sweet little lady he has.
I am so taken with this. Wonderful his career takes a back seat. She needs her daddy and Kudos to the Bengals for realizing that.
I KNOW!!!! I saw that this weekend and wanted to give them a standing O!
I love stories like this. When public figures put their lives aside to make room for others that are suffering. So nice!
What a beautiful story. Good for the Bengals that they did the right thing — I hope more companies take note of this. So inspiring, and my heart goes out to their family.
It is great to know that humanity still exists! This is a true miracle that they resigned him so that his baby could get the care she needs. God bless them!
My husband was telling me about this the other day and was telling me that the Cincinnati Bengals signed him on to the practice squad. So incredibly heartwarming and I’m so glad that Devon will have that time to focus on his daughter.
I have to admit I had never heard of him, but what he does he is amazing! I am now a Bengals fan!
I have never heard of him but he sounds like a great person!
Now THAT’S a man. And the Bengals are a team worthy of praise whether they win everything or loose it all. Putting what’s important over entertainment sends a very powerful message.
That is true. There are far too many companies that would have just let him go without looking back. Being #1 and winning are not the most important things and people need to remember that.
As a mom to little ones this breaks my heart. I could not imagine. What a great program and way to help, thanks for helping.
I have never heard of him. I love the idea behind this program: every bit will help in those difficult moments. Thanks for sharing
What an inspiration. It’s so amazing to see celebrities be good examples of putting priorities in order. The world needs to be reminded of what’s important.
I am not familiar with him, but the Bengals might be my favorite team too! Wow, so inpirational and moving.
I love this! I’m always so heartened when I hear about a professional sports player doing the right thing. It seems like so many of them do the wrong thing…
What a beautiful story. Both Devon and the Bengals did the right thing, and I love seeing that.
This is really cool. I am so glad that some businesses show that they have a heart in that money making machine somewhere!
I have tears in my eyes – I shared your post on my FB page. Everyone doing the right thing ๐
Oh thank you so much. I did, too, when I heard it the first time and then again when I told my husband about it.
Awe, my heart! that is so sad, I wish them all the best – I’m happy he can spent more time with her. So great for the company, wow, truly amazing.
I actually heard about this on the news but had not seen the pictures. Thanks for making this inspiring story more personal. This family will be in my prayers!!
What an amazing man and father! I can’t even imagine one of my children going through this. Prayers for them!
you hear so much bad press about NFL glad to hear they are doing good.
Wow, I had no clue about any of this, but like you I think it is great… I don’t know a lot about football, but this is a great story
Thank you so much for sharing this story! I’m really proud of the NFL for doing the right thing.
Me too… too many people put their careers first and miss out on so much>
I think it’s great that they changed his contract so he can be home more with his daughter. In a situation like that, it’s only the right thing to do.
Heartbreaking. What a great program and good on the team for changing his contract.
Aw, this breaks my heart and warms my hearty, all at the same time. What a great daddy.
That’s amazing. Today, especially, we needed to hear some good news from the NFL! Way to go Bengals!
This is my first time hearing of him. However, I applaud him for what he has done.
Me neither, I am not familiar with him but I think it’s wonderful what he is doing.
That made me totally tear up. That’s a man who has his priorities in the right place. Love this story and I pray for his little girl.
What a beautiful, touching story. It’s stories like this that should make the evening news instead of all that incendiary stuff… I wish Devon’s daughter a speedy recovery.
I had not heard of this before. What an amazing father and strong little girl!!
Such a amazing man. I will have to do a little research and see how i can help. Thanks for sharing such a amazing story.
That is really nice of you. I have a link at the bottom of the story for one organization, but if you are looking for something different, there are tons more out there that help families like this.
This story could not get any better! God works in mysterious ways and I hope this child can recover and be a strong woman someday!
How incredibly sad. Thank you for making us aware!
