Needtobreathe recently started their Caves World Tour and we caught their show at Coastal Credit Union Music Park in Raleigh, NC on April 26th. We have decided to start a new series here on Eat Play Rock where we put together setlists of the shows that we attend. We are kicking things off with the Needtobreathe Caves World Tour setlist. I assume many of you like to know if your band is going to play “your song” before you go. It’s me! I am the one who needs to know if my song will be played! I have been to too many concerts in the past where my song hasn’t been played [shout out to John Michael Montgomery and “Cover You In Kisses” – or rather the lack there of] and now I like to set my expectations appropriately in advance.

Needtobreathe Concert Review
I won’t lie, I wasn’t all that familiar with Needtobreathe before I saw them a couple weeks ago. I knew the song, “Brother,” and that was it. But I am TOTALLY a fan now. They put on an awesome, energetic show! Here are some of the highlights for me. I loved the visuals that they put together for the huge jumbotron [is that what you call it?], particularly the extreme closeups of the lead singer’s face [just his mouth singing along] that gave kind of an eerie vibe, in my opinion. I also loved the [pop art?] grid with what seemed like hundreds of images of the band [or a single member] on the screen at once.
I found the music to be really upbeat and inspirational. There was also an acoustic set in the middle where they asked for donations to be made to a charity. I mistakenly thought they were a Christian band from what I gathered online – me conjuring images of a highly religious, Jesus themed concert. Based on their inspirational theme, I would guess they are Christians, but definitely not an “in your face” religious group, for lack of better terminology. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but those who are not into religion could still very much enjoy a Needtobreathe concert. Basically, I found the message uplifting, with a focus on being kind and having fun, and not overtly religious.
I would classify them as a rock group, or pop country. The performance wasn’t ridiculously loud [but take ear protection if you are sensitive, just in case] and the crowd was really chill. I have been to concerts where people can be pushy and rude and this group of people was not like that at all. It mostly consisted of younger people, I presume 20 somethings, but there was definitely a mix – my husband [late 50s] and myself [late 40s] – for example. Most everyone was singing along and seemed super familiar with pretty much every song they heard, while dancing and throwing around beach balls – a really fun, laid back crowd. The lead singer also came down into the pit and walked around the crowd a bit, so keep your eyeballs open for that if you catch the Needtobreathe Caves World Tour. I definitely think this is a concert that is appropriate for all ages – and I absolutely DO NOT think all concerts are appropriate for all ages.
