See “Instant Family” Now On Bluray/DVD

Last night I watched “Instant Family” starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne. If you are looking for a sweet, family friendly movie, I highly recommend it. But it’s not just fluff for the family to enjoy together, not that fluff is bad, this movie has a sweet and meaningful message about the importance of adoption.

Adoption isn’t easy. You are integrating a new person [or people] into a family that they are not as accustomed to as they would be with a family they grew up with. People have different personalities and children who are up for adoption are often products of abuse and/or neglect, so they need extra care and patience. It’s not always easy, but it’s beautiful, and important, just like depicted in this movie.

If you are considering adoption, I highly recommend you watch this movie. I think it gives a multi-sided view of what adoption looks like. It’s sad. It’s funny. It’s complicated. Just like real people and real relationships.

The heartwarming film, inspired by the real events from the life of writer/director Sean Anders, follows Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) as they decide to start a family and stumble into the world of foster care adoption. They hope to take in one small child but when they meet three siblings, including a rebellious 15 year old girl (Isabela Moner), they find themselves speeding from zero to three kids overnight. Now, Pete and Ellie must hilariously try to learn the ropes of instant parenthood in the hopes of becoming a family. INSTANT FAMILY also stars Octavia Spencer, Tig Notaro and Margo Martindale. The film is rated PG-13.
