Nine Lives Movie Review {Starring Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Garner & Christopher Walken} #NineLives

August 16, 2016 by Jay Crawford

Nine Lives Movie Review {Starring Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Garner & Christopher Walken} #NineLives

Let me just say before I go into this review that I have stepped out of my comfort zone to review this film. I have never been a big fan of kid’s films. Even when I was a kid I stuck to more of the action and comedy films than anything. I could probably count on one hand the number of kid’s films that I have seen in my lifetime. So, seeing the new film Nine Lives was a little bit different for me. I am not saying that kid’s films are bad, but they are just not my thing. However, I have to admit that the few that I have watched were good. So, there are two schools of thought here: either my inexperience with kid’s movies makes me unqualified to give a good review, or my inexperience with kid’s movies makes me more objective, which means this review will be better than most. I guess that will be up to you to decide.

Nine Lives Movie Review

Nine Lives stars Kevin Spacey as Tom Brand, one of the richest people in Manhattan. He is obsessed with building the tallest building in the northern hemisphere. He is so obsessed, in fact, that he is forgetting his family. His wife, Lara (Jennifer Garner), daughter Rebecca (Malina Weissman) and son David (Robbie Amell) all have suffered for his obsession.

On the eve of his daughter’s eleventh birthday, Tom asks her what she wants for her special day. She asks for a cat. Reluctantly, Tom agrees to get her one. So, on the way to her party, he stops by an off-the-beaten-path pet shop owned by Felix Perkins (Christopher Walken) to pick up the cat, named Mr. Fuzzypants. He receives an emergency phone call to come to his new beloved skyscraper. At the top he meets his company’s young president, Ian Cox (Mark Consuelos) and receives some bad news. After an altercation with Cox, a freak accident sends Brand tumbling over the edge of the building, along with Mr. Fuzzypants.

Brand awakens to find himself trapped inside the body of Mr. Fuzzypants, the cat. What ensues is a hilarious attempt to make his family realize that he is the cat, and an attempt to save his company from being sold from under him, while his human body lies in the hospital in a coma.

My Thoughts

This is a good kid’s movie with a wonderful moral to it. When we get lost in our work, we tend to forget that family is more important. The story line is a bit rehashed. Think Groundhog Day meets Freaky Friday meets Mr. Destiny. It’s very similar overall. However, the cat made it fun (I’m a huge cat fan, so I can attest). The acting was solid, Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Garner give good performances, as does Christopher Walken. If you are looking for a good family movie, especially for the younger members of your family, you will enjoy this film. I would give it 3 and a half stars out of 5. Hopefully, you will find it entertaining and will enjoy it on your night at the movies.

About Jay Crawford

Jay is a die hard sports fan {football and college basketball being his favorites}. His favorite teams are the Carolina Panthers and Tarheels and, of course, his alma mater, the Appalachian Mountaineers. He spends his free time listening to music, especially KISS, Def Leppard, the Eagles and a lot of the newer country music, and watching comic book and action movies. The more special effects - the better.

We haven’t had a chance to see this movie yet. We don’t normally watch movies like this now that the kids are older, but it’s Kevin Spacey so…

This looks like a super cute movie. I know movies like this are geared towards smaller kids, but with Jennifer Garner and Kevin Spacey, how could you NOT go to see it?

I’m not a kid movie person either, but I do love cats so this movie caught my attention. I figured it would be kind of like the same story we’ve seen before but hey as long as there is a cat in it, I’m game.

I thought it was a cute movie and my kids really liked it. But to me, it seemed like something we’d watch at home as a special on a kids’ channel rather than a big screen movie.
