If you have read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green like I have, then you have probably been anticipating the arrival of the movie. Starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, the two work beautifully together to bring Hazel and Gus to life.

I have to say, I liked the movie quite a bit. At first I was skeptical about Shailene Woodley playing the role of Hazel Grace. My reasoning behind this was that, prior to The Fault In Our Stars, I had only seen her in one other role that I can recall – The Secret Life of the American Teenager. On that show, I felt that although her acting wasn’t the worst I have seen, it could have definitely been better. To be fair, Woodley has worked on other projects since {i.e. Divergent} which seems to have greatly improved acting range. In her portrayal of Hazel Grace, Woodley put all of my doubts to rest and brought to life the character just as I had envisioned her while reading the best selling novel.
I didn’t have any previous knowledge of who Ansel Elgort was, so I really was indifferent towards him. While playing Augustus, he did a splendid job. Not to mention that he is great to look at. 😉 He was cocky, yet awkward at times and I really liked that about him. His character had a great range of emotions that I felt Elgort was able to effectively portray. This made his character likable and easy to empathize with.
I am pleased and feel that both of the main actors did a great job!
One thing I didn’t like about the movie was that I felt they didn’t talk enough about the character Isaac {played by Nat Wolff}. In the book, I really loved and sympathized for his character. In the movie, you only got to see him for a few bit parts which I was really disappointed with. If you did not read the book first, you might not care about this, though.
Also, Willem Dafoe playing Van Houten did a good job. Although his character is hard to like, and I found myself really not caring for this person. Personally, when an actor can make you have such a strong reaction to a character they portray, I think that means that the actor did a fabulous job.
Final Thoughts On The Fault In Our Stars
All together, I think the actors did an amazing job at captivating the audience at appropriate times and I must admit that at many times during the movie I was an emotional mess. If you are emotional and love a good tear jerker, be prepared to bring tissues. The Fault In Our Stars’ movie plotline stays close to that of the book, for which I was very pleased. I love the book and I see no need to change it. Some movie adaptations change the entire story line of a book and ruin it. This is not one of those movies.
I had been thinking about adding this to my Netflix queue when it comes out, but I don’t like to cry at movies,so maybe I should sit this one out…..

I saw the movie and thought it was pretty good. I had the kleenex all ready but I didn’t cry.. I think I just held it in because I didn’t want my husband to make fun of me 🙂

I never watch the movie if I have read the book. I end up being so disappointed because it is nothing like I imagined when I read it. I am glad you were able to enjoy both.
I am like you. Movies rarely ever live up to books with me. The only movies that I can think of right off that really did the book justice have all be miniseries.
So we went to theater I promised my husband I wouldn’t cry like it would not happen. I even cry with bambi and now I’m pregnant my hormones are crazy but this movie was so sweet and touching I did cry a lot but I also did laugh ad cuddle with my hubby a great movie. It actually lives up to the book.
I just know I’m going to bawl in that, but I still want to see it. 🙂

This is one of my favorite books of all time. Hands down. This movie was one of the best movie adaptations of a book I’ve seen.

The girls that were helping me with my kayak today were talking about this movie. I really want to see it. It looks like a very sad and moving movie.
It’s a deceptive story. Ageless really. When I first saw the cover I thought it was another teen romance, but scratching below it shows a whole other world. I still think my first comment runs true. It’s an interesting title. Poetically, but not truthfully. Here’s to changing stars and giving ourselves the loves and lives we deserve. It’s not fated … it’s waiting to be written.
