Man of Steel ~

Fans have been waiting a long time for the re-telling of the beginning of America’s greatest superhero, Superman. Now it is finally here, and here is my review of this most recent DC Comics offering, Man of Steel.

Man Of Steel Movie Plotline

Man of Steel features Henry Cavill as Kal-El, the last son of Krypton, and a whole host of stars, including Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Laurence Fishburne, Russell Crowe and Amy Adams. It tells the story of Kal-El, who is born on the planet Krypton during the planet’s final days. Despite warnings from Kal-El’s father, Jor-El (Russell Crowe), the Council of Elders decides not to take action to save Krypton’s collapsing core. Krypton’s military leader, General Zod (Michael Shannon), attempts a coo to overthrow the council but it arrested. Jor-El sends his son via a specially designed spacecraft to Earth so that all Krypton’s people will not die. When Kal-El arrives on Earth, he has no memory of Krypton or of his real parents. He grows up as Clark Kent, the son of Jonathan and Martha Kent (Kevin Costner and Diane Lane, respectively). However, Clark soon discovers that he is different from other children, and he struggles to maintain a normal life. As he grows, he faces the struggle between keeping his powers to himself and using them to help a perhaps unappreciative mankind.

 

Jay’s Thoughts On Man Of Steel

This film takes a much different perspective on the whole Clark Kent/Superman theme. While all other films have focused on Superman and his extraordinary powers, this one focuses more on the human side. Therefore the film is more real. We see Clark’s struggles to fit in, how his parents tried to help him cope, and how he struggles as he grows to decide what to do with his powers. Don’t worry, though. It has plenty of action as well. This was a very good movie and was very well made. I did enjoy it. I was not sold on the idea of Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, but he did an outstanding job!

 

Dawn’s Thoughts On Man Of Steel

I loved how they didn’t play the whole “Clark Kent is wearing glasses so we can’t recognize him bit.” I never believed that as a child and I wouldn’t buy that now either. Lois Lane {who makes a wonderful, likable Lois Lane} knows who Superman is pretty much from the beginning and, for me, that makes for a more real and more believable story. Also, the bad guys in this movie – very very cool!
