One thing that Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has an abundance of are dinner theaters. However, there is one dinner theater in particular that is different than, and we feel stands out above all the rest, the House of Blues Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre.
At The House Of Blues, Murder Is On The Menu
The Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre is unique in several ways. First, it takes place at the House of Blues Myrtle Beach, located at Barefoot Landing, which is known for hosting several top notch musical acts on its stage. Second, unlike all the other dinner theaters that seat you in an arena, House of Blues Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre seats you in a sort of dining hall with large tables, family style. Finally, at House of Blues Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre, you are a part of the show.
What Goes On At A Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre?
During your dinner, a murder occurs. You have to try and solve the crime and figure out who in the room is a murderer. It could even be the person sitting next to you. You must pay very close attention to details, because several things could happen during the course of the show that may seem rather trivial at the time, but could have a huge impact on the investigation.
Last week, we attended the Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at the House of Blues Myrtle Beach and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Not only do the actors participating in the show perform their roles well, but they are quite comedic in doing so. There was a laugh a minute during the performance that kept us wanting more. Also, we were thrilled to have some people vital to the show sitting right at our table! So, definitely pay close attention to those around you.
How About The Food?
And what about the food? Well, we were served a salad, chicken, broccoli and mashed potatoes. All were delicious. We followed that up with a dessert that we think was bread pudding, but we are not really sure. Anyway, it was probably the best part of the meal.
Once the show was over, and the murderer had been discovered, the actors took the time to shake hands and pose for pictures. They were very friendly and extremely nice to us during our visit. I will remember that as much as anything about our trip.
There Is So Much To See At House Of Blues
After the show, we still had plenty of time to enjoy the rest of House of Blues. There was a house band and a Journey tribute band performing downstairs. The Journey tribute band was phenomenal and sounded a lot like Journey. My wife thought they sounded exactly like Journey. At any rate, Journey is basically a tribute band now, anyway *cough* so you may as well see the cheaper version. ๐
Also, there is a ton of really cool art hanging around House of Blues. Make sure to walk around the entire venue and check it out while you are there.
The only thing that we could find wrong was what we refer to as “the straw incident.” When the servers brought straws to the table, they just dropped a bundle of straws on the table, and everyone at our table (we were seated with several other people that we didn’t know) just started grabbing at the straws and putting their hands all over them. The straws were not in wrappers. That’s just not clean. So, we just passed on the straws and went about our good time. So, if you are a germaphobe who just has to have a straw, you might want to take one with you. If you don’t care, then carry on with your bad self. ๐
We wanted to add that the show does contain humor that was of the adult nature, but it is listed as being for people 13 years of age and up. We didn’t find anything in the show offensive, rather it was all really funny, but we know that everyone has different senses of humor, so please keep that in mind.
Our Thoughts On The Show
We loved it! The food was great. The jokes were funny and the people at our table were hilarious. Also, the mystery is not crazy easy to figure out {neither one of us did} so we very much enjoyed it. If you like mysteries, comedy and good food, we think you will definitely love the Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at the House of Blues Myrtle Beach.

That sounds like a super fun twist on the usual dinner out! I’d love to visit.
That sounds super fun. I’ve never done a murder mystery dinner before, but they are totally intriguing. Next time I’m down there, I’m doing this!
You definitely have to! We hadn’t done it before either, but we had been to the House of Blues for dinner. It was so much fun. ๐
I have always wanted to do a murder mystery dinner! That looks like it was so much fun!
I’ve always thought it would be fun to go to a murder mystery dinner. I imagine it would be like living in a game of Clue (one of my favorite games to play as a kid).
I love Clue, too. That is exactly what I thought it would be like, too. ๐
Oh so cool! I haven’t been to a murder mystery dinner in ages… this one looks like a seriously awesome time.. food looks totally yums too! I almost made it to the House of Blues restaurant in Boston… going to have to try to make it out there yet.
My husband and I have done a few murder mysteries and we love them. That one you went to sounds like it would be right up our alleys.
I’ve always wanted to do one of the murder mystery dinners. Sounds like so much fun.
I’ve always wanted to experience something like this and when the food’s good, all the more!!
you know, we did a murder mystery dinner once, years ago. i’d forgotten about it and how much fun we had until I read this!
Oh my goodness, how much fun!!! I have ALWAYS wanted to go to a murder mystery dinner theatre!!! Seriously. Looks like you had a blast and I’m rejuvenating my NEED to go to one this year!
Wish we had this in my town!! What an amazing place! Great for a date night ๐
I’ve always wanted to go to a murder mystery dinner like this. I think it would be fun. We don’t have anything like this near me though and on vacation no one wants to go with me. Boo on them.
You ought to just go without them, lol.
Oh my goodness! Now this is one of my dreams to participate in a Murder Mystery Dinner. I’ve seen this on tv shows but didn’t realize I could attend one. I’m thinking this would be perfect for my birthday next year! I love solving mysteries.
I’ve been meaning to go to a Murder Mystery Dinner for quite some time now. I always see one advertised on Groupon. They seem so much fun and entertaining!
How cool! I have actually been to that House of Blues, I thought it was so cool and the food was awesome!
We went there to eat the last time we were in Myrtle Beach or maybe the time before that. You are right – the food is ridiculously good!
These are so much fun! We went to one a long time ago and loved it!
This would be my kind of fun evening! I’ve never been to diner theatre yet this needs to change soon, I know I’d have a blast!
How awesome is this?! I’ve been to similar murder mystery events but never at the HOB.
I did not realize HoB did this type of things, I always think of them for intimate concerts!
The night we went, they had a concert {the Journey tribute band} in one section of the House of Blues, another house band in a bar type section and then the Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre in another. You could be in one room and not hear what was going on anywhere else – which I thought was really cool. But then you could go to this open area in the middle of it all and listen to both bands. The middle part is open roof and you could sit in chairs and enjoy a drink and the music – so we did that a while before heading back to the hotel. ๐
This looks like such agreat time! I’ve never been but it looks fun.
I seriously love murder mystery dinners! They are so much fun! And what a fantastic environment to host one in too!
For real! House of Blues sort of has a creepy, haunted sort of vibe to it anyway. It makes me think of that song “Marie Laveau,” by Bobby Bare every time I go. I so love the House of Blues!
There’s a murder mystery dinner in my town but I’ve never gotten around to going. This one looks like a lot of fun!
I have always wanted to attend one of these murder mystery dinners. I will check this out the next time I am in Myrtle Beach.
We’ve never been to a murder mystery dinner theater but I bet it’s a ton of fun! I hope to visit Myrtle Beach someday – guess I should see if this is on the schedule when we go!
From the schedule I looked it, they seem to do it about every weekend {at least one night}. So, if you go on a weekend, I think your chances are pretty good. ๐
This sound so fun! I went to a Mystery Dinner Theater once and it was a blast. Your food looks way better!
I wish we had a House of Blues nearby – tried it in Chicago and loved the food and atmosphere. Murder Mystery Dinners are a lot of fun too! My best friend’s husband threw her a surprise Murder Mystery Dinner for her 30th birthday.

I have always wanted to attend one of these, I did not expect the food to look so good though. Not sure what exactly I expected for the menu. The idea of seeing the mystery solved would be so much fun.
My sister recently attended one of these dinner theaters and she loved the food and the performance.
This all looks like a really fun time. Sounds like something I would love to do on a date night ๐
This sounds like a great time. Good food and fun is my kind of night. I have never attended one before but have several family members that have and had a great time.
