The Wolverine~
If you are thinking about going to see Marvel Comic’s latest movie offering, The Wolverine, but can’t decide, here is my review to help you make up your mind.
The Wolverine: Plot Line {With Semi-Spoilers}
The Wolverine finds Logan, a.k.a. Wolverine, out on his own and battling nightmares about his life as well as the death of his beloved Jean Grey {played by Famke Janssen}, when he is summoned to Japan (reluctantly) to visit an old acquaintance who is dying. This acquaintance offers Logan the opportunity to do what he, at this point, wants to do most: grow old and die. However, the situation becomes complicated when Logan discovers that the multi-million dollar corporation that his acquaintance had built has been willed not to the man’s son, but to his granddaughter, which of course has left the son very bitter and angry. The son has hired the Yakuza (Japanese Mafia) to kill the granddaughter. Now Logan must protect her but discovers in the process, thanks to his acquaintance’s protege, he has become mortal, and his mutant healing powers are gone.
Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine, and delivers another spot-on performance as the brooding, angst-ridden mutant with the adamantium claws. Famke Janssen makes a few appearances as the deceased Jean Grey, beckoning for Logan to join her, Tao Okamoto plays the granddaughter Mariko and Haruhiko Yamanouchi plays Yashida, the grandfather, Logan’s acquaintance.
The Wolverine: Jay Says…
The movie is good overall. It has plenty of action sequences, and the story line is strong and coincides with the comic book version. However, I felt that at times the movie got a little draggy. It seems to me that it took forever for Logan to figure out why Mariko was being hunted. For some reason, this was kept a secret from him, as though it were a matter of national security. For some reason which I can’t really explain, this grated on me. I kept wanting to say, “Just say it, already!” Other than that though, it was a good film. I won’t rate it as high as The Avengers or any of the X-Men movies, but I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.
The Wolverine: Dawn Says…
I didn’t get the “draggy” feeling that Jay did. I thought the movie was great and very fast past. Hugh Jackman looked great as The Wolverine and I really enjoyed the doctor, played by Svetlana Khodchenkova. The Wolverine probably wasn’t THE best comic book movies I have seen, but it was definitely one of the better ones. In my opinion, it’s definitely worth your time to see it in the theaters. Some of the fight scenes, and the train scene in particular, will look the best on the big screen. 🙂

I just saw him in Les Mis movie finally. Funny to see him back in Wolverine. I haven’t really got a favorite super hero type movie but I did enjoy the Fantastic 4 and Avengers.
