Remember The Dixie Chicks?
If the names “Emily Robison” and “Marty Maguire” aren’t ringing a bell, I am sure that you know who they are. They are two members of the Dixie Chicks {minus Natalie Maines}.
Dixie Chicks are the highest selling female group in any genre. They hold the distinction of being the only country group in history and the only female group of any genre to earn back-to-back Diamond Awards signifying 10 million in record sales.
*Warning* Do Not Read If You Do Not Like Soap Box Style Rants
I have to say, I really really miss the Dixie Chicks. I hate the way they were treated on country radio after expressing their political opinions. I worked in country radio at the time, so I can say that. Everyone else expresses their opinions all the time and no one gives a flip so why were people so offended by Natalie Maines’ opinion. So, Natalie Maines was ashamed that George W Bush was from Texas. So. How many actors have threatened to leave the entire country if so and so won the election {yet stayed in the country after so and so won – seemingly having forgotten their threat/promise}. In my opinion, a policital opinion is just an opinion – like everyone else’s – it has no effect on my musical tastes.
I find it sad that the Dixie Chicks could have a political opinion that would get them death threats but Chris Brown could beat the heck out of Rihanna and still be welcomed on radio. We want our girls to be strong, right? Well, what all this says to me is that we are basically telling them to shut their mouths. Girls can NOT express their political opinions but they CAN take a beating and expect their attacker to be welcomed back into the same workplace {essentially}.
*Warning Over*
I think perhaps we need to take a step back and rethink the message we are actually sending little girls. At any rate, I love the Dixie Chicks as well as Court Yard Hounds and fully intend to add this album to my collection.

Loved the video. Thanks for sharing!
It’s been a while since I’ve heard ‘Dixie Chicks,’ but I recognized these ladies instantly. Glad to see them coming back, personally, I always found them to be a good role model.
I liked the Dixie Chicks too – I have to agree with your rant.
Nice music in the video.
Thanks for alerting me to it.
I love the Dixie Chicks too. Thanks for sharing info about this new group. Sounds like some good stuff.
Totally agree with your rant. Love the Dixie Chicks and glad to see that at least some of the members are still making music.
I always like the sound of these ladies. No I did not like the anti-American statements but I can separate that away from their music (and it is a FREE country)!!
Thank you, Shelley! That is my point exactly. 🙂
