One thing that Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has an abundance of are dinner theaters. However, there is one dinner theater in particular that is different than, and we feel stands out above all the rest, the House of Blues Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre.
At The House Of Blues, Murder Is On The Menu
The Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre is unique in several ways. First, it takes place at the House of Blues Myrtle Beach, located at Barefoot Landing, which is known for hosting several top notch musical acts on its stage. Second, unlike all the other dinner theaters that seat you in an arena, House of Blues Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre seats you in a sort of dining hall with large tables, family style. Finally, at House of Blues Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre, you are a part of the show.
What Goes On At A Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre?
During your dinner, a murder occurs. You have to try and solve the crime and figure out who in the room is a murderer. It could even be the person sitting next to you. You must pay very close attention to details, because several things could happen during the course of the show that may seem rather trivial at the time, but could have a huge impact on the investigation.
Last week, we attended the Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at the House of Blues Myrtle Beach and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Not only do the actors participating in the show perform their roles well, but they are quite comedic in doing so. There was a laugh a minute during the performance that kept us wanting more. Also, we were thrilled to have some people vital to the show sitting right at our table! So, definitely pay close attention to those around you.
How About The Food?
And what about the food? Well, we were served a salad, chicken, broccoli and mashed potatoes. All were delicious. We followed that up with a dessert that we think was bread pudding, but we are not really sure. Anyway, it was probably the best part of the meal.
Once the show was over, and the murderer had been discovered, the actors took the time to shake hands and pose for pictures. They were very friendly and extremely nice to us during our visit. I will remember that as much as anything about our trip.
There Is So Much To See At House Of Blues
After the show, we still had plenty of time to enjoy the rest of House of Blues. There was a house band and a Journey tribute band performing downstairs. The Journey tribute band was phenomenal and sounded a lot like Journey. My wife thought they sounded exactly like Journey. At any rate, Journey is basically a tribute band now, anyway *cough* so you may as well see the cheaper version. š
Also, there is a ton of really cool art hanging around House of Blues. Make sure to walk around the entire venue and check it out while you are there.
The only thing that we could find wrong was what we refer to as āthe straw incident.ā When the servers brought straws to the table, they just dropped a bundle of straws on the table, and everyone at our table (we were seated with several other people that we didnāt know) just started grabbing at the straws and putting their hands all over them. The straws were not in wrappers. Thatās just not clean. So, we just passed on the straws and went about our good time. So, if you are a germaphobe who just has to have a straw, you might want to take one with you. If you donāt care, then carry on with your bad self. š
We wanted to add that the show does contain humor that was of the adult nature, but it is listed as being for people 13 years of age and up. We didnāt find anything in the show offensive, rather it was all really funny, but we know that everyone has different senses of humor, so please keep that in mind.
Our Thoughts On The Show
We loved it! The food was great. The jokes were funny and the people at our table were hilarious. Also, the mystery is not crazy easy to figure out {neither one of us did} so we very much enjoyed it. If you like mysteries, comedy and good food, we think you will definitely love the Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at the House of Blues Myrtle Beach.

That sounds super fun. I've never done a murder mystery dinner before, but they are totally intriguing. Next time I'm down there, I'm doing this!

I've always thought it would be fun to go to a murder mystery dinner. I imagine it would be like living in a game of Clue (one of my favorite games to play as a kid).
I love Clue, too. That is exactly what I thought it would be like, too. :)
Oh so cool! I haven't been to a murder mystery dinner in ages... this one looks like a seriously awesome time.. food looks totally yums too! I almost made it to the House of Blues restaurant in Boston... going to have to try to make it out there yet.
My husband and I have done a few murder mysteries and we love them. That one you went to sounds like it would be right up our alleys.
