I have seen all kinds of reviews for the Ghostbusters remake. Some love it, some hate it. I know, when movies get remade this can really upset some people. For me, I just want to see if it’s good or not first. Then I decide. I want to see if the movie can stand on it’s own, without totally changing the original. I hate when those that do remakes feel they need to “improve” it in some way. I also want a remake to pay homage to the original. Does Ghostbusters do that? Ghostbusters Review

Ghostbusters {based on the 1984 movie} stars Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig as scientists who are reunited over a book they co-wrote about their theories on ghosts years before. Soon they are confronted with an actual ghost and band together a team {Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth} to battle against a sinister madman who wants to release all ghosts from another dimension into New York City.

My Thoughts

My favorite parts were the special effects. Some people don’t care for CGI, I know. I LOVE it when it’s done correctly. And it is definitely done correctly in this movie. That last ghost was so scary. I also loved the Mannequin and the balloons, without spoiling too much. I love how they featured some of the ghosts from the original.

I was worried that I was not going to like Chris Hemsworth’s character, based on the trailers. I just didn’t find him that funny in the previews. But he ended up being my favorite character. I loved him in a comedic role. His character is not very smart {to put it mildly} but he is still so lovable. And yes, ladies, he is still very cute. 😉 Be sure to stay for the entire credit list, as you get to see Hemsworth dancing and it’s pretty cool.

I am surprised they didn’t kill Melissa McCarthy on set. Her character did all kinds of dangerous stunts and I was quite impressed. I love it how she has become an action adventure star. It’s great to see Hollywood breaking away from the typical and tired molds they use for casting movies. McCarthy is a badass.

To me, the funniest characters were those played by Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. I love Saturday Night Live, anyway, so I am already quite familiar with these two ladies. Leslie Jones plays a funny and sarcastic character and McKinnon plays an awkward and super smart scientist. I love how excited she gets about her work. Be sure to keep an eye on her character as one of her fight scenes is my absolute favorite scene in the entire movie.

Most of the main characters from the original movies also make cameos {Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Ernie Hudson}. I don’t recall seeing Rick Moranis. If he was there and I just missed him, please let me know in the comments below. There are also other ways the new Ghostbusters references the old. Though this movie can definitely stand on it’s own merits, it does pay it’s respects to its predecessor. And it doesn’t deviate so much from the feel of the original that you can’t even understand what it was actually inspired by anymore.

This is my absolute favorite movie of the summer so far and I give it 5 stars. Easy.

Dear Internet Trolls…

You know who you are and you know what I am talking about.

I have no idea why you would target anyone for hours with tweet after tweet of hate. What did Leslie Jones ever do to you? Personally, I find her hilarious. I absolutely love her on Saturday Night Live. In fact, I find her to be one of the few consistently funny people on there in recent years. And I loved her in Ghostbusters {in case you skipped the review above and the trolling is what you came for}. Of course, I don’t know her personally and I am betting neither do you.

I find it ironic that this whole thing started at the suggestion of one person. This person apparently asked people to troll her on Twitter. And troll her they did. FOR HOURS. Why? I am guessing he just thinks it’s funny to get 300K+ plus people to bend to his demands. He has a long history of hate towards people of different religions, race, etc. The irony of it all is this person is a gay, Republican. What the crap? I would assume that being a gay Republican would have quite a few challenges. And by a few I mean a lot. I mean, just being gay is not easy. Add being a Republican, a party that isn’t very inviting to gays, to the list.

So, the hate that is spewed at you, do you just spew it back? I’m rubber, you are glue, so to speak. Why haven’t your life experiences taught you any empathy towards others. Are you a sociopath? They say being gay is the way you are born. Being black is the way Leslie Jones was born. So, why is it OK to be you and it’s not OK for her to be her?

I hadn’t heard of you until this crap, but I have since learned that you have been banned temporarily from Twitter several times. You are since banned again and they are saying it’s permanent. Good riddance. We need love in this world. And you are not that. I think you should take this time in the Twitter time out chair to look inward and see why you are so angry. Did your mom not hug you enough? I implore you to take this time to work on yourself.

And I’ll just keeping on laughing at and loving the comedic gift that is Leslie Jones. And I will also admire her now, too, for the classy way she handled you Twitter trolls.
