Myrtle Beach~
I would like to share with you one of the most infamous road trips the family and I have ever taken. It was to one of our favorite destinations – Myrtle Beach. We have been to Myrtle Beach on several occasions and have rather enjoyed ourselves most of the time. But, this one road trip to Myrtle Beach was not an enjoyable experience.
Road Trip
It was me, Dawn, Amber and one of Amber’s friends. We got the bright idea that in order to give us what amounted to an extra day at Myrtle Beach that we would leave real early in the morning. We actually got so anxious to go that we left at around midnight. Our motel room was not supposed to be ready until the next day, mind you, so we would have to spend all day riding around Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area until check in time. So, we arrived in Myrtle Beach at approximately 5 a.m. It was pouring down rain, and it was early April, so temperatures were only in the mid 50s during the day. That meant it was in the 30s at that time of the morning.
Arriving At Myrtle Beach
We parked in a Walmart parking lot, but we were so cramped up that we couldn’t get comfortable. So, we wanted to go into the store, but at about the time we got ready to get out of the car, the bottom dropped out and it was raining so hard you literally could not see your hand in front of your face! Needless to say, we didn’t get out of the car.
Tired And Cranky
We left the Walmart parking lot and headed down to the beach, where parking before 9 a.m. was free. We parked here where we could see the ocean, and called our hotel to see about an early check in. That’s when things went from bad to worse. Not only could we not check in early, but the check in time for this particular motel was 4 pm! Yes, 4 pm! Not 2 like most other places! We were exhausted and cramped up and now we were frustrated.
Amber and her friend wanted to shop at Tanger Outlet Mall, so we drove there and parked. They went in to shop when the mall finally opened at 10 a.m. while Dawn and I sat exhausted in the car and slept.
Hotel Screw-Up
To top it all off, when we finally got to the motel to check in, they had double booked our room, and had moved us into a completely different place without our knowledge, that we did not like. We usually stay at the same place, one that we really like, and now that, too, was gone!
I know that it sounds as though the whole trip was a disaster, but actually, we ended up having a great time, and the weather cleared by that afternoon, and it was absolutely gorgeous the rest of the trip! So, in the end it would end up being another fun trip to Myrtle Beach!
Nothing that a cold drink at Cheesburger in Paradise couldn’t fix, anyway. 🙂

I love to visit different places but it is a challenge when things aren't working out they way you plan. I am glad the trip turned out ok.
like to go on long distance road trips.I love them but haven't done one in a while, I love to see the country not just fly by.
Not sure what looks better, the martinis or the smoothies! Sounds like a fun trip for sure!
Oh my gosh! If that was my first road trip I don't think I'd ever go on another one!
Aww sorry that trip started out with a rocky beginning. We've been pretty fortunate with most of our travel plans, and don't do a lot of road trips. There was the time though that we drove out to the Black Hills and our daughter got car sick on the Needles Highway. That was not fun.... :P
Oh no, I bet it wasn't. I hope that everything turned out ok for you in the end.
Ooh now that was a shaky start! So glad it all worked out.. those drinks look AMAZING! I've always wanted to go to Myrtle beach, still on my to do list!
Im glad things looked up and you ended up having a good time after all the hiccups!
Oh my goodness, sounds like what could have been a horrible trip turned out pretty nice. Hotel screw ups are never fun, but at least you made great memories
At least it all worked out in the end. You have a nice adventure story now! Hope the hotel did something for you for your trouble with the overbooking.
