When I worked in radio, Exile was a staple of my playlist. I just knew that I could play them and, not only do I love their music, but I knew my audience would, too. They just have that sound, you know? Everyone knows “Kiss You All Over” and I absolutely love that song, but other personal favorites of mine are “Nobody’s Talking” and “I Can’t Get Close Enough.” Can you believe I haven’t seen them in concert though? Next week I will be headed to Gulf Shores, Alabama, to the Hangout Music Festival. I have never been to this particular music festival before and, gasp, I have never been to Alabama except to drive through on the way to Florida. The genre started a bit of a move away from outlaw music and picked up a bit of pop sound, which also allowed many acts to crossover onto stations that played other genres or music. With acts like Exile, Alabama and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, country music in the 80s was not only big for crossover success, it was also great for bands.
