Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review From A Star Wars Newbie

Ok, so I need to start out this review by saying that I have only ever seen the first 3 Star Wars movies made, the ones from like the 70s and 80s. I also saw them around that time, so I am definitely not a Star Wars expert. If you are a Star Wars expert and are looking for a review from a fellow expert, this is probably not the review for you. However, if you are a relative newbie to the franchise, like me, then check out my Star Wars: The Last Jedi review and let me know what you think in the comments below.

In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.

The film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman. J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski and Jason McGatlin are the executive producers.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in U.S. theaters now.

There are many franchises that I have seen all or most of the pieces of. I am all about the Avengers movies [Mark Ruffalo *swoon*] and the Pirates of the Caribbean series, as well as the Fast and Furious franchise. But somehow in my movie watching, I have missed out on the Star Wars trilogies [if that is that the correct terminology to use here]. Anyway, I have to say that I enjoyed this movie enough that I definitely want to go back and watch the others that I have missed now.

If you are a newbie to the franchise, you might need a few minutes to figure out what’s going on. I have seen the first 3 movies made, so I know the main characters, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia. There were a lot of new characters to learn about in this movie and the only thing I found confusing was Ben Solo [aka Kylo Ren]. It took me a little bit to realize he had changed his name and that both names belonged to the same character. So keep that in mind. Though I really enjoyed Star Wars: The Last Jedi, I think I would have definitely gotten more out of the movie had I seen the others first. So why not check this one out in the theater, and then buy it when it comes out on DVD and Bluray and then have a binge on all of the movies. That’s my plan. Now I just need a binge buddy. :D

So, here are the things that I loved so much about Star Wars: The Last Jedi that make me want to watch all of the others. My absolute favorite thing would be the fight scenes. I really like the choreography but, more than that, much like the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, I find this movie very visually appealing. There was a lot of the color red used in this movie… with the fight in the red room which looked freaking awesome, the planet with the red ground under the salt and the red caverns that the rebels flew through during some of their aerial fight scenes towards the end of the movie. Maybe it was a psychological thing to amp up the viewers excitement and/or adrenaline or the use of so much red was an artistic move. Either way, I loved it.

And the cuteness of it all! The Porgs. Oh my gosh! How adorable. I especially love the scenes between Chewbacca and The Porgs. They are equal parts cute and pitiful. I have to say, they almost melt my cold, black heart. ;) I was really glad to see R2-D2 and C-3PO, as well. And the new to me robot BB-8. Who knew robots could be so cute, too? I need a BB-8 rolling around my house. Can I make that happen?

Anyway, I am not including spoilers in here. I don’t love having movies ruined for me before I see them. But, if you are a person who has been holding out on this particular franchise, go check this movie out. I think that between the cuteness of it all and the epic fight scenes, as well as the amount of original characters that were in this movie, most people will enjoy and feel familiar with Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Also, for the ladies, Benicio Del Toro is in this movie. ;)
